Easy Crafts Equals Outdoors Fun

Since I installed EasyTurf, I’ve found a lot of extra time on my hands – time for outdoor activities much more fun than mowing and raking the old lawn.

Crafts with my kids is now one of my favorite Saturday morning activities – surprising considering my level of crafting. One particularly fun and productive activity is making our own sidewalk chalk. The recipe is easy enough:

Ingredients:
Plaster of Paris
Water
Tempera Paint
Plastic Container for mixing
Wooden spoon for Stirring
Empty Toilet Paper Tubes
Duct Tape
Waxed Paper

Directions:
Line the inside of the toilet paper tubes with wax paper – gluing works well. Then cover the outside of toilet paper rolls with duct tape, including one of the open ends.

Pour one cup of warm water into the plastic container. Stir in Plaster of Paris until thick and stiff but still able to stir. Add two or three tablespoons of tempera paint. Stir. Pour mix into the molds. Let stand to dry. Remove chalk from tubes and find your inner artist.

The kids enjoy making the chalk as much as they do using it – and spending time with the kids is much better than working the lawn.
